Designer type
Nice work from British lad, George Simkin. Although the name sounds like a fabulously intriguing character from a Graham Greene novel, George is actually a talented designer, illustrator, film maker (the list goes on) hailing from London with a website full of clever and well-crafted work. Favourites include the simply beautiful illuminating Christmas type and his Splendid poster...
Enjoy and keep an eye out from more work from this talented Pom.
Fab poster - could not have said (or drawn) it better.
Tealight type - watch the film here - very clever and very beautifully done.
Taking handcut lettering to the extreme for magazine front cover.
Again, very well said...
All images from George's website...

Love birds
I don't subscribe to the American Hallmark day of enforced love but today's blog is about romantic birds. Well, one in particular. The flamingo.
I stumbled across this splendid jumper on the Liberty website. Ahhh, covet! After I wiped the saliva from my jaw I remembered that the flamingo is a terribly romantic bird and that also today is 14 February. Sooo, it seemed churlish not to share some lovely stuff featuring the pretty flamingo...
London based designer Markus Lupfer is working his bedazzler.
This jumper is sooo covetable but for a whopping 270 pounds maybe not...
Marc Martin and his infinitely lovely screen print.
Sharon Montrose of the Animal Print shop once again captures the simple beauty in animal grace.
(Check out her Little Darlings series - hate to say it but "too cute".)
My all time fav screenprinter, Charley Harper's, Flamingo Ago-go. Brilliantly lovely.
And on that note, I will leave you with some words from the most romantic bird I know, Carol Ann Duffy...
Valentine
Not a red rose or a satin heart.
I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.
Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.
I am trying to be truthful.
Not a cute card or a kissogram.
I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.
Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring,
if you like.
Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.

Illustrator of the Week
oo, just stumbled across French illustrator Maureen Valfort and am a huge fan.
Her lively offbeat style reminds me of what would be a modern day love child of Paul Rand and Maurice Sendak. Maureen's use of bright clashing colour is delivered in a quirky, unique style that gives her illustration a timeless feel.
Maureen hails from France "where she spent her early life on a farm in the countryside. She studied graphic design at l'Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, and some years later at The Royal College of Art. She now specialised in the design of books, catalogues, identities and exhibition pieces and lives in London."
All images from Maureen Valfort where you will also find more of her great work.

Awesome rabbit from a childrens book Maureen is currently designing.

Love these designs for jewellery store, Odium, featuring illustrations of birds made from jewels.

Plus this fab wallpaper for a German wool store.

Enjoy!
